WORLD ABLAZE
WORLD ABLAZE
Medium: Collage, paint, nupastels, markers.
Materials: 1973 poster of Earth, vintage National Geographic magazines, and foam.
Theme: Dystopia / ultra rich 1%.
Unique Feature: Woven flames and an integrated light.
This piece portrays a world in flames alongside collages of lavish gatherings, highlighting the environmental impact of the elite 1%. Using varied vintage materials, I prompt reflection on the consequences of unchecked affluence and the responsibility of the privileged.
I was inspired to make this piece when I learned that the carbon footprint of the richest 1% equals that of two-thirds of the global population. “World Ablaze” urges introspection on the environmental impact of privilege and emphasizes the need for collective responsibility.
